LDAP es un grupo de protocolos para accesar informacion de directorios.
LDAP esta basado en los estandares del del protocolo X.500, pero
su implementacion es mucho mas simple por lo que se llama algunas veces x500-lite.
. Tanto LDAP como X.500 ganaron gran aceptacion ya que soportan su transmision sobre
TCP/IP lo cual es requerido por los sistemas que funcionan a traves de internet.
Gracias a que esta siendo implementado en muy diversas plataformas (Windows, Linux, solaris, etc), LDAP eventualmente podria hacer posible que cualquier aplicacion corriendo en cualquier
sistema operativo, pueda comunicarse con otra muy diferente para obtener la informacion
del directorio activo, direcciones y llaves publicas. Al ser LDAP un protocolo publico y abierto
los programas no tendran que preocuparse acerca de que tipo o marca es el servidor principal del directorio.
